Variable-Inertia Emulation Control Scheme for VSC-HVDC Transmission Systems

Zhipeng Shen et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel variable-inertia emulation control scheme for VSC-HVDC transmission systems, allowing energy extraction from augmented DC capacitance for inertia emulation without affecting the stability of the connected AC system. With this scheme, the inertia time constant can be flexibly emulated and adjusted automatically based on grid frequency changes, leading to more effective inertial support across different timescales.

Optimal Allocation of Energy Storage System in DFIG Wind Farms for Frequency Support Considering Wake Effect

Linyun Xiong et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an optimal ESS allocation (OEA) scheme for doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind farms to mitigate the impact of wake effect in frequency support. The study analyzes the synchronous stability of wind turbines under frequency dips using the concept of frequency support margin (FSM), and investigates the detrimental impact of wake effect. The role of ESSs in improving wind turbines' synchronous stability is demonstrated. The OEA problem is formulated by segmenting the wind turbines into different clusters based on the received wind speed, with the objective of optimizing the coherency of the wind turbine clusters' FSM level. Simulation results show that ESS can provide secondary frequency support and reduce the risk of loss of synchronous stability.

Adjustable Wind Farm Frequency Support Through Multi-Terminal HVDC Grids

Mahmoud Mehrabankhomartash et al.

Summary: In the future power systems, wind turbines connected to AC grids via HVDC and MTDC grids must have the ability to adjust temporary power and time intervals to meet complex grid codes and frequency support requirements. Traditional methods lack the capability to offer both of these crucial features simultaneously, prompting the proposal of two new approaches for addressing this challenge.

Two-Level Combined Control Scheme of VSC-MTDC Integrated Offshore Wind Farms for Onshore System Frequency Support

Yongxin Xiong et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a two-level combined control scheme for voltage source converter-based multi-terminal high-voltage direct current integrated offshore wind farms to provide frequency support for the onshore system and reduce the second frequency drop. The scheme includes adaptive control at the wind turbine level and communication-free allocation control at the onshore VSC station level. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and universality of the proposed scheme under different scenarios.
