BIM-Assisted Workflow Enhancement for Architecture Preliminary Design

Keyao Wu et al.

Summary: China's urban housing demand has had a direct impact on urbanization development. To stabilize urbanization levels, it is crucial to improve the efficiency of the entire construction life cycle, with a particular focus on preliminary design. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an information technology widely used in the construction industry to enhance project implementation and management. However, the traditional approach to preliminary design still dominates the market, lacking a systematic BIM workflow and resulting in inefficiencies. This study aims to address this issue by constructing a BIM-assisted workflow to enhance preliminary design efficiency. The findings demonstrate that the BIM-assisted workflow requires less time compared to the traditional workflow, highlighting the significant potential of BIM in reducing operation time and enhancing preliminary design efficiency in the Chinese Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.

Contribution of nearly-zero energy buildings standards enforcement to achieve carbon neutral in urban area by 2060

Zhang Shi-Cong et al.

Summary: This study found that upgrading building energy standards to NZEB will contribute 50.1% to carbon neutrality by 2060, while zero-carbon electricity will contribute 49.9%. It is recommended to set 2025, 2030, and 2035 as mandatory enforcement years for ultra-low energy buildings, NZEB, and zero energy buildings (ZEB) respectively.

A metamodel for building information modeling-building energy modeling integration in early design stage

M. K. Bracht et al.

Summary: This study describes the development and validation of a tool that integrates BIM and metamodels to predict thermal load of dwellings through gbXML, showing its feasibility. However, inconsistencies in gbXML files from different BIM authoring tools were observed, requiring manual adjustments. This highlights the importance of standardized exportation tools for open interoperability formats by software manufacturers.

Designing a BIM energy-consumption template to calculate and achieve a net-zero-energy house

Samer El Sayary et al.

Summary: BIM is not just a drafting tool or advanced CAD, but a collaboratively generated and maintained data-rich information source, especially useful in energy calculations and the development of low- and net-zero-energy homes. The widespread adoption of photovoltaic rooftop systems has shown that solar homes can be an effective solution to energy demand.
