Numerical simulation and experimental validation of cavitating flow in a multi-hole diesel fuel injector

Aishvarya Kumar et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the predictive capability of the ZGB cavitation model along with RANS, the realizable k-epsilon turbulence model, and compressibility of gas/liquid models for cavitation simulation in a multi-hole fuel injector for diesel and biodiesel fuels at different cavitation numbers. The quantitative assessment was done by comparing predicted velocity profiles with LDV data, while the qualitative assessment involved visual comparison of predicted void fraction with CCD recorded images. The model showed high confidence in predicting fluid behavior and the formation of vortices in the injector sac volume, with RANS proving to be a cost-saving and accurate method for predicting cavitating flow.

Spray Analysis of Biodiesels Derived from Various Biomass Resources in a Constant Volume Spray Chamber

Anilcan Ulu et al.

Summary: This research aimed to analyze the spray characteristics of various biodiesels, which have rarely been investigated in terms of spray analysis in the literature compared to fossil diesel. Four different methyl estertype biodiesels were produced from canola, corn, cottonseed, and sunflower oils. The results showed that the biodiesel fuels had different properties compared to the reference diesel fuel, and exhibited different spray characteristics under different chamber pressures and injection pressures.

Experimental study of spray analysis for Palmarosa biodiesel-diesel blends in a constant volume chamber

Ramalingam Sathiyamoorthi et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the spray properties of Palmarosa oil methyl esters fuel and compared them with mineral diesel under different injection pressures. The results showed differences in spray characteristics between biodiesel and diesel at high pressures, indicating the potential of Palmarosa oil methyl ester in diesel engines.
