Spray Analysis of Biodiesels Derived from Various Biomass Resources in a Constant Volume Spray Chamber

Anilcan Ulu et al.

Summary: This research aimed to analyze the spray characteristics of various biodiesels, which have rarely been investigated in terms of spray analysis in the literature compared to fossil diesel. Four different methyl estertype biodiesels were produced from canola, corn, cottonseed, and sunflower oils. The results showed that the biodiesel fuels had different properties compared to the reference diesel fuel, and exhibited different spray characteristics under different chamber pressures and injection pressures.

Evaporating spray characteristics of methanol-in-diesel emulsions

Anupam Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spray characteristics of methanol-in-diesel emulsions from a common rail diesel injection system under evaporating conditions. Different surfactants were used to stabilize emulsions with varying methanol content, which affected the liquid-length of the spray. Results show that the spray characteristics are influenced by injection pressure, methanol percentage, and surfactant used.

Experimental study on spray characteristics, combustion stability, and emission performance of a CRDI diesel engine operated with biodiesel-ethanol blends

Limin Geng et al.

Summary: The study found that adding ethanol to biodiesel improves spray characteristics and combustion performance in diesel engines. At low loads, peak cylinder pressures (PCPs) of BE blends are higher than diesel, while peak heat release rates (PHRRs) are also higher. However, at medium-high loads, PHRRs decrease and emissions decrease with increasing ethanol blending ratio.

Experimental Research on the Macroscopic and Microscopic Spray Characteristics of Diesel-PODE3-4 Blends

Yulin Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that blended fuel with PODE3-4 has better spray characteristics than pure diesel at low temperatures, with an increase in injection pressure leading to increased vapor phase penetration distance and cone angle, and decreased Sauter mean diameter. As ambient temperature increased, the vapor phase projection area and cone angle of the blended fuel increased while SMD decreased.

Experimental study on spray characteristics of octanol biodiesel and modification of spray tip penetration model

Junjian Tian et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of octanol on the spray characteristics of biodiesel through experiments and model verification. Results show that increasing octanol content leads to changes in spray penetration, cone angle, velocity, and area. The modified model, which introduces density, viscosity, and correction factors, is more suitable for predicting the spray characteristics of blended fuel under high injection pressure.
