Dynamics of low-molecular-weight organic acids for the extraction and sequestration of arsenic species and heavy metals using mangrove sediments

Kang Mei et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates through experiments that microorganisms may facilitate the release of arsenic in sediments in the presence of citric and malic acids, but suppress arsenic mobilisation in the presence of oxalic acid. The results also show significant correlations between iron, manganese, aluminum and trace metal(loid)s (Zn, Pb, Ni, Cu, Cr, Co, Ba, Cd, As). The solution pH is negatively correlated with the solution As content.
