Quercetin alleviates acute kidney injury by inhibiting ferroptosis

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that quercetin (QCT), a natural flavonoid, inhibited ferroptosis in renal proximal tubular epithelial cells by reducing lipid ROS levels and increasing glutathione (GSH) levels. QCT also ameliorated acute kidney injury induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) or folic acid (FA). Furthermore, RNA-sequence analysis revealed ATF3 as a key factor in QCT's inhibition of ferroptosis. Additionally, QCT inhibited the recruitment of pro-inflammatory macrophages in AKI.

Nuciferine protects against folic acid-induced acute kidney injury by inhibiting ferroptosis

Danyu Li et al.

Summary: Nuciferine effectively mitigates pathological changes and kidney dysfunction in mice with folic acid-induced acute kidney injury, as well as prevents RSL3-induced ferroptotic cell death in vitro. The protective effect of nuciferine against ferroptosis is associated with its ability to prevent iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, as well as its interaction with GPX4.

Ferroptotic pores induce Ca2+ fluxes and ESCRT-III activation to modulate cell death kinetics

Lohans Pedrera et al.

Summary: Ferroptosis is a form of regulated necrosis that depends on iron ions and is associated with lipid peroxidation. An increase in cytosolic Ca2+ precedes cell bursting in ferroptosis, and membrane nanopores are linked to plasma membrane damage in this process. Activation of ESCRT-III serves as a general protective mechanism, counterbalancing cell death kinetics during ferroptosis.

C5b-9 membrane attack complex activated NLRP3 inflammasome mediates renal tubular immune injury in trichloroethylene sensitized mice

Haibo Xie et al.

Summary: In TCE-sensitized mouse models, sublytic C5b-9 activated the NLRP3 inflammasome, exacerbating renal tubular epithelial cell damage, while pretreatment with recombinant protein sCD59-Cys can inhibit the expression of the NLRP3 inflammasome, alleviating renal tubular epithelial cell damage.

Endothelin-1/Endothelin Receptor Type A-Angiopoietins/Tie-2 Pathway in Regulating the Cross Talk Between Glomerular Endothelial Cells and Podocytes in Trichloroethylene-Induced Renal Immune Injury

Haibo Xie et al.

Summary: The study revealed the crucial role of the ET-1/ETAR-Angs/Tie-2 pathway in regulating the communication between glomerular endothelial cells and podocytes in OMLDT patients and TCE sensitized mice. Treatment with BQ123 could alleviate glomerulus immune injury by modulating apoptosis-related proteins.
