Changes in Organic Carbon in Mineral Topsoil of a Formerly Cultivated Arenosol under Different Land Uses in Lithuania

Liudmila Tripolskaja et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effects of land use on the concentrations of organic carbon, humic acid, and fulvic acid in different soil horizons. The results suggest that converting cropland to fertilized managed grassland can increase soil organic carbon sequestration, while unfertilized managed grassland has a negative impact on humic substances formation. Furthermore, different land use types also influence the types and quantities of humic substances.

Impact of agronomic and organic characteristics of waste composts from Togo on Zea mays L. nutrients contents under water stress

Outende Toundou et al.

Summary: The study focused on the use of wastes composts to enhance agriculture yields in Togo, emphasizing that the quality of composts and maturity of organic matter impact the absorption of nutrients by plants and their adaptation to water stress. The chemical characteristics of composts significantly influenced the transfer of nutrients from soils to plants under different irrigation conditions.

Long-Term Effects of Amendment with Olive Mill Wastewater on Soil Chemical Properties, Microbial Community, and Olive Tree Vegetative and Productive Activities

Luca Regni et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of OMWW application in an olive orchard and found that soil chemical properties and microbial structures changed in the short term but returned to similar levels as soil after two years. Firmicutes were negatively affected by OMWW spreading initially, but bacterial taxa in the soil were eventually restored.

One Step Bioremediation of Olive-Oil-Mill Waste by Organoinorganic Catalyst for Humics-Rich Soil Conditioner Production

Maria Roulia et al.

Summary: This study discusses a new, simple, and rapid method for the biotechnology treatment of raw olive oil mill waste, utilizing microaerobic composting processes and a tailor-made biocatalyst. The bioprocess led to a significant reduction in polyphenols and an increased humic substances content, making the OMW compost stable, free of toxic compounds and pathogens, and rich in cenose, vital for soil fertility in organic farming. Applications confirmed the suitability of the product as a first-class soil conditioner.
