Generalized Karagiannidis-Lioumpas Approximations and Bounds to the Gaussian Q-Function With Optimized Coefficients

Islam M. Tanash et al.

Summary: The article presents extremely tight novel approximations, lower bounds and upper bounds for the Gaussian Q-function by optimizing coefficient sets in terms of minimax absolute/relative error and total absolute/relative error. The significant advance in accuracy is demonstrated through numerical comparisons with key reference cases.

The novel approach to the closed-form average bit error rate calculation for the Nakagami-m fading channel

Aleksey S. Gvozdarev

Summary: The research presents a closed-form evaluation procedure for the average bit error rate in wireless communication systems with multipath fading. It applies a generalized version of the classical moment generating function and establishes a connection between the Hankel-type contour-integral representation of the Marcum Q-function and Gauss Q-function. This connection is used to analytically calculate the average bit error rate of quadrature amplitude modulated signals in Nakagami-m fading. The obtained solution is verified and shown to be computationally efficient compared to existing approximations. The proposed methodology has potential applications in various composite channels.

Improved Coefficients for the Karagiannidis-Lioumpas Approximations and Bounds to the Gaussian Q-Function

Islam M. Tanash et al.

Summary: The study focuses on optimizing coefficients in the KL approximation of the Q-function to reduce absolute error, relative error, and total error. Different approaches are used to minimize maximum absolute/relative error, such as describing uniform error functions and numerical search. An additional coefficient is introduced to achieve tighter absolute and total error, although relative error may become unbounded. The KL expression is also extended to incorporate lower and upper bounds with optimized coefficients for minimizing error measures similar to the approximations.
