Immune defense, detoxification, and metabolic changes in juvenile Eriocheir sinensis exposed to acute ammonia

Tianyu Wang et al.

Summary: This study explored the toxic responses in the hepatopancreas of juvenile E. sinensis exposed to ammonia-N, showing that ammonia stress activated the immune defense system, upregulated detoxification genes, and accelerated glycogen degradation. Additionally, the tricarboxylic acid cycle and amino acid consumption were enhanced for energy supply to cope with ammonia stress.

Hypoxia-reoxygenation stress modulates the hepatopancreas transcriptome of Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis

Yu Xu et al.

Summary: Hypoxia is a common yet overlooked issue in Chinese mitten crab rearing. This study found that the hepatopancreas transcriptome of crabs is severely affected under hypoxia, with significant changes in gene expression related to cellular adaptive responses to hypoxia. The results suggest that even after 12 hours of reoxygenation, the adverse effects of hypoxia on growth, development, and disease susceptibility in the crabs persist.

Acute exposure to microcystin-LR induces hepatopancreas toxicity in the Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis)

Cheng Chi et al.

Summary: Chinese mitten crab is economically important in aquaculture, but hepatopancreatic necrosis syndrome caused by cyanobacteria bloom outbreaks and MC-LR toxicity can affect its quality and breeding industry.
