Application of disk tube reverse osmosis in wastewater treatment: A review

Ziwei Zhang et al.

Summary: China has been a major contributor to investigations on disk tube reverse osmosis (DTRO), with a cumulative reported DTRO application scale in wastewater treatment of around 16,500 m³/d by 2020. Highest reported frequencies were for leachate and flue gas desulfurization (FGD) wastewater. DTRO has shown promising prospects for wastewater treatment, with high removal rates for pollutants and manageable operating costs.

Persulfate enhanced photoelectrochemical oxidation of organic pollutants using self-doped TiO2 nanotube arrays: Effect of operating parameters and water matrix

Aseom Son et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of adding peroxydisulfate (PDS) to a photoelectrocatalysis (PEC) system using self-doped TiO2 nanotube arrays (bl-TNAs) for organic pollutant degradation. The addition of PDS significantly increased the removal efficiency of bisphenol-A (BPA) and other pollutants, with higher pseudo first-order reaction rate constants. The PEC/PDS system showed enhanced degradation performance and stability across a wide range of operating parameters and water matrices.

A nature-based negative emissions technology able to remove atmospheric methane and other greenhouse gases

Tingzhen Ming et al.

Summary: Fulfilling the Paris Climate Agreement requires reaching net zero emissions by 2050, with Iron Salt Aerosol (ISA) offering new possibilities for removing greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide. ISA mimics natural processes and may help address unintended warming effects that could arise from decarbonization efforts. Further research and testing are needed before ISA can be trialed at a larger scale.

Improving the feasibility and applicability of flow-electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI): Review of process optimization and energy efficiency

Yong-Uk Shin et al.

Summary: Flow-electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI) is a new electrochemical desalination technology that overcomes limitations of traditional CDI processes by using stationary carbon electrodes and ion exchange membranes, with ion electrosorption as the main separation mechanism. The unique feature of continuous ion/salt separation and avoidance of electrode saturation constraints sets FCDI apart. This paper reviews recent advancements in FCDI, discusses feasibility and potential applications for saline water/wastewater treatment, and explores factors influencing performance and energy efficiency.
