Neural correlates of morphological processing: An activation likelihood estimation meta-analysis

Talat Bulut

Summary: This study investigates the neural basis of morphological processing using neuroimaging studies. The results show that the left frontal regions of the brain, particularly the posterior inferior frontal gyrus (LIFG), play an important role in processing inflectional morphology and supporting grammatical functions.

Stable brain loci for the processing of complex syntax: A review of the current neuroimaging evidence*

Yosef Grodzinsky et al.

Summary: A retrospective review of fMRI studies on complex syntax revealed that the left Broca's region is the main locus of complex receptive syntax in healthy individuals, with the left posterior brain regions also being involved to a lesser extent.

Language networks in aphasia and health: A 1000 participant activation likelihood estimation meta-analysis

James D. Stefaniak et al.

Summary: Aphasia recovery post-stroke may not rely on novel recruitment of right hemisphere territory, but on the utilization of under-utilized regions within the language network. Regions such as the right anterior insula, frontal operculum, and inferior frontal gyrus were more likely to be activated in individuals with PSA than controls during language tasks.

Brain regions that support accurate speech production after damage to Broca's area

Diego L. Lorca-Puls et al.

Summary: This study investigated brain activation patterns underlying accurate speech production following stroke damage to the opercular part of Broca's area. Patients with damage to the left pars opercularis activated a substantial portion of the normal bilaterally distributed system, with a lesion-site-dependent effect in a specific part of the right cerebellar Crus I. The findings suggest distinct roles of right Crus I and right pars opercularis in domain-general cognitive control.
