Adsorption and inhibition effect of tetraaza-tetradentate macrocycle ligand and its Ni (II), Cu (II) complexes on the corrosion of Cu10Ni alloy in 3.5% NaCl solutions

K. Shalabi et al.

Summary: In the search for high-performance, effective, and eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors, the macrocyclic compartmental ligand PDHDH and its Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized. These inhibitors were found to act as mixed-type inhibitors for Cu10Ni alloy corrosion in 3.5% NaCl solutions, with a protection capacity reaching 95.7% at an additive concentration of 100 mu M. The adsorption of the inhibitors on Cu10Ni was determined to follow Freundlich adsorption isotherm and be physisorption, supported by DFT calculations, Fukui indices, Mulliken atomic charges, and MEP mapping.

Synergistic effect of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole and octylphosphonic acid as corrosion inhibitors for copper and aluminium - An electrochemical, XPS, FTIR and DFT study

Dzevad K. Kozlica et al.

Summary: The inhibitory action of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBI) and octylphosphonic acid (OPA) on copper and aluminum in NaCl solution was investigated. While MBI was found to be a good inhibitor for copper but not for aluminum, OPA behaved complementarily. Evidence suggested that OPA changed the bonding of MBI on the copper surface, resulting in a thicker and more protective organic film.

On how the corrosion behavior and the functions of Cu, Ni and Mo of the weathering steel in environments with different NaCl concentrations

Tianyi Zhang et al.

Summary: The corrosion resistance of weathering steel decreases as NaCl concentration increases, although the weight gain rate is lower in high concentration due to the inhibition on the diffusion of O2 caused by residual NaCl solution. In low NaCl concentrations, Cu, Ni, and Mo can promote the agglomeration process and improve the rust layer performance, while in high NaCl concentrations, this process is severely inhibited, resulting in a loose rust layer.

Estimation of Corrosion Rate of AISI 1016 Steel by the Analysis of Polarization Curves and Using the Method of Measuring Ohmic Resistance

K. V. Rybalka et al.

Summary: The study examines the corrosion of AISI 1016 steel in HCl solution and evaluates various methods for determining corrosion currents. It shows that using an iterative method for analyzing potentiodynamic curves near the corrosion potential can avoid the complexities that arise when the Tafel extrapolation method is used without pronounced Tafel sections in the curves.
