Assessment of bonding durability of CLT and glulam made from oak and mixed poplar-oak according to bonding pressure and glue type

Citra Yanto Ciki Purba et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the influence of manufacturing parameters on the bonding quality of CLT and glulam. It finds that bonding pressure and glue type significantly affect the bonding quality, with interactions with the kind of species bonded. Pure oak CLT or glulam shows more delamination, but their residual shear strength can be comparable or even superior to mixed poplar-oak specimens.

Hydroxymethylated resorcinol (HMR) primer to improve the performance of wood-adhesive bonds-A review

Thomas Boeger et al.

Summary: The HMR primer, developed in the 1990s for improving the performance of epoxy-bonded wood lamellas in moist conditions, has been proven effective in research. However, due to additional process steps and costs, as well as the availability of suitable wood species and adhesives without the primer, it is not widely used in industrial production. It may be interesting to integrate the primer's functionality into existing adhesive systems in order to adapt to changes in wood species availability.

Effects of cryogenic temperature on some mechanical properties of beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) wood

Osman Emre Ozkan

Summary: This study investigated the effects of cryogenic temperatures on the mechanical properties of beech wood, showing that the bending strength and modulus of elasticity of the wood increased during freezing. The increase in mechanical strength properties could be attributed to the freezing of water, hardening of wood cell walls, decreasing intermolecular distance, increasing intermolecular force, and stabilization of crystalline structure.

The Influence of Wood Moisture Content on the Processes of Freezing and Heating

Ivan Klement et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of wood freezing process on heating process, finding that moisture content has a significant effect on the freezing rate of wood, with samples of lower moisture content experiencing faster defrosting and heating processes.

Effects of Freeze-Thaw Cycles on Physical and Mechanical Properties of Glulam Exposed to Outdoor Environment

Ruyuan Yang et al.

Summary: This study aims to identify suitable indices to assess the durability of glulam under freeze-thaw cycles in an exposed environment. The research found that aging treatment had little effect on water-resistance and dimensional stability, but weakened bending resistance, particularly in low-density wood. It suggests using shear strength as an important index for high-density wood and static bending strength for low-density wood to determine durability under freeze-thaw cycles aging.
