A novel method for improving the printability of cement-based materials: Controlling the releasing of capsules containing chemical admixtures

Lijing Shao et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel method to control the rheological properties of 3D printed concrete (3DPC) using external stimulations. By releasing accelerators and thickeners from smart capsules, the printed materials can maintain high flowability before extrusion and improve buildability after applying the stimulations.

Crack self-healing in bio-green concrete

Lei V. Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the potential of using S. pasteurii bacteria for crack self-healing in eco-efficient concrete. Results show that concrete incorporating bacteria can completely heal cracks within 90 days, while control specimens did not show any self-healing. SEM-EDS combined with Raman spectroscopy suggested that calcite was the dominant self-healing product in the concrete.
