Experimental study on concurrent factors influencing the ITZ effect on mass transport in concrete

Kai Wu et al.

Summary: This study systematically assessed the impact of ITZ on gas permeability, capillary water absorption, and chloride migration in concrete. It found that the effects of ITZ and densification were more pronounced with higher aggregate content or finer aggregate size. Gas permeability was less sensitive to ITZ changes, while chloride migration was more sensitive. The study also highlighted the potential for cracks due to preconditioning to mislead the analysis of ITZ effects.
