POSREG: proteomic signature discovered by simultaneously optimizing its reproducibility and generalizability

Fengcheng Li et al.

Summary: Mass spectrometry-based proteomic technique is essential in studying biological processes. However, current statistical frameworks neglect the reproducibility among identified features. Thus, developing a tool to identify reproducible and generalizable proteomic signatures is crucial.

Combined drug repurposing and virtual screening strategies with molecular dynamics simulation identified potent inhibitors for SARS-CoV-2 main protease (3CLpro)

Abbas Khan et al.

Summary: The current coronavirus pandemic has raised concerns about the modern public health care system, with a total of 4,434,653 confirmed cases and 302,169 deaths reported. A study combining drug repurposing and virtual drug screening strategies identified potential inhibitors targeting 3CLpro, including Saquinavir and five drugs from the Traditional Chinese Medicine database. Molecular dynamics simulation and total binding free energy results showed promising hits that should be tested experimentally against SARS-COV-2.

A molecular single-cell lung atlas of lethal COVID-19

Johannes C. Melms et al.

Summary: Single-nucleus RNA sequencing of lung tissues from individuals who died of COVID-19 revealed a highly inflamed lung environment with impaired T cell responses and failed transition of alveolar type 2 cells. Additionally, expansion of pathological fibroblasts contributing to rapidly ensuing pulmonary fibrosis in COVID-19 was identified as a unique feature compared to other causes of pneumonia.
