Stability index for the planview morphology of alluvial rivers and a case study of the Lower Yellow River

Yanhui Liu et al.

Summary: Morphological changes in river channels are vital for river engineering, and the RSIRR index can effectively evaluate the steady state of rivers. By studying the braided reach of the Lower Yellow River, thresholds for stable and unstable reaches were determined, and a decreasing trend in RSIRR values from 1985 to 2009 was observed.
