Multi-agent modeling of hazard-household-infrastructure nexus for equitable resilience assessment

Amir Esmalian et al.

Summary: This study developed a computational multi-agent simulation model to assess the impact of infrastructure service disruptions on households. The model integrates hazard, infrastructure system, and household elements to examine the interactions and propose strategies for equitable resilience. Improving restoration prioritization strategy to focus on vulnerable populations is found to be effective in reducing societal impacts.

An agent-based modeling approach for community resilience assessment accounting for system interdependencies: Application on education system

Mohammad Aghababaei et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an agent-based modeling approach to study education systems resilience in communities. By simulating interactions among autonomous entities and different systems within the community, the study assesses the impact of tornado hazards on the education system and proposes measures to enhance its resilience.

Effect of Residential Building Wind Retrofits on Social and Economic Community-Level Resilience Metrics

Wanting (Lisa) Wang et al.

Summary: Tornadoes occur frequently in the United States but have small impacts in terms of geographical footprint; Comprehensive community resilience improvement requires considering interacting physical, social, and economic systems; This study quantitatively examines the effects of tornado retrofit strategies on socioeconomic metrics for the first time.

Quantitative modeling of residential building disaster recovery and effects of pre- and post-event policies

Wanting (Lisa) Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a methodology based on multi-layer Monte Carlo simulation to model a two-stage recovery process for residential buildings, considering delay in repairs and functional downtime due to repairs. By investigating a series of policies, it aims to enhance community resilience planning through better understanding of collective communitywide impacts of these policies.
