Biomass gasification in a downdraft fixed-bed gasifier: Optimization of operating conditions

Summary: A CFD model was developed for biomass gasification in a downdraft fixed-bed gasifier, with sugarcane bagasse used as feedstock. The study identified optimal operating conditions, such as S/A ratio of 0.67 and inlet velocity of 20 m/s, to maximize syngas yield and conversion efficiency, while increasing preheating temperature of air/steam and decreasing biomass moisture content had positive impacts on the gasification process. Maximum conversion efficiency reached 69.14% under the optimum conditions.
