A multi-modal open dataset for mental-disorder analysis

Hanshu Cai et al.

Summary: According to the WHO, the number of mental disorder patients, particularly those with depression, is increasing rapidly and has become a major contributor to the global burden of disease. Utilizing tools such as artificial intelligence, researchers are exploring new physiological indicators of mental disorders using physiological data, and developing new applications for diagnosis. A multi-modal open dataset for mental disorder analysis has been presented, including EEG and spoken language data recordings from clinically depressed patients and matched normal controls, carefully selected by professional psychiatrists. The dataset includes both traditional 128-electrodes EEG signals and wearable 3-electrode EEG signals, as well as audio data.

An Improved Empirical Mode Decomposition of Electroencephalogram Signals for Depression Detection

Jian Shen et al.

Summary: Depression is a serious mental disorder that is predicted to become a major threat to life in the near future. This study proposes an improved feature extraction method based on Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) to accurately extract features from Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals for depression detection. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves high classification accuracy on four EEG databases, comparable to the existing method based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD).

Analysis of Functional Brain Network in MDD Based on Improved Empirical Mode Decomposition With Resting State EEG Data

Xuexiao Shao et al.

Summary: This study proposed a network decomposition model based on Improved EMD for time-frequency analysis of brain functional network in major depressive disorder (MDD). The results showed that Improved EMD decomposed IMFs were more stable, and the changes in MDD functional connectivity on different IMFs were related to pathological changes, providing potential biomarkers for clinical diagnosis. Additionally, significant differences between MDD and normal controls were found in three network metrics, confirming the aberrant brain network structure of MDD in hubs characteristics.
