A bioprosthetic heart valve prepared by copolymerization of 2-isocyana- toethyl methacrylate modified pericardium and functional monomer

Cheng Zheng et al.

Summary: This study developed a new glutaraldehyde-free crosslinking method to prepare a poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDA) polymer crosslinked porcine pericardium (PICM-PEGDA-PP) with improved cytocompatibility, stability, mechanical properties, and anticalcification property compared to glutaraldehyde crosslinked porcine pericardium (GA-PP). The PICM-PEGDA-PP demonstrated low protein, platelet, and blood cell adsorption as well as significant antithrombotic performance. It meets the requirements for BHVs according to ISO 5840-3 and has the potential to be a clinical alternative for glutaraldehyde crosslinked BHVs in the future.

Phase-change cascaded nanomedicine for intensive photothermal-enhanced nanocatalytic therapy via tumor oxidative stress amplification

Weijuan Zou et al.

Summary: The phase-change cascaded nanomedicine constructed with thermal-responsive phase-change materials shows potential in modulating the tumor microenvironment and enhancing the efficacy. Photothermal activation generates highly toxic hydroxyl radicals and reduces the scavenging of reactive oxygen species, leading to optimized nanocatalytic therapy.

A bilineage thermosensitive hydrogel system for stimulation of mesenchymal stem cell differentiation and enhancement of osteochondral regeneration

Tzu-Hsiang Lin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the chondrogenesis, osteogenesis, and regenerative potential of an injectable, thermoresponsive chitosan-graft-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (CSg-PNIPAAm, or CSPN) hydrogel combined with infrapatellar fat pad-derived mesenchymal stem cell (IFPSC) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with regard to osteochondral regeneration. The results showed that the combination of IFPSC, CSPN hydrogel, and PRP can synergistically enhance chondrogenic and osteogenic gene expression, cartilage- and bone-specific extracellular matrix production, hyaline cartilage regeneration, and mineralized osseous tissue formation. These findings have important implications for the application of regenerative medicine.

Functional Hydrogels as Wound Dressing to Enhance Wound Healing

Yongping Liang et al.

Summary: Hydrogels have shown promising advantages as wound dressings due to their excellent biochemical and mechanical properties. This review summarizes the advanced functions of hydrogel dressings, such as antimicrobial, adhesion, hemostasis, anti-inflammatory, substance delivery, self-healing, stimulus response, and conductivity, as well as the emerging wound monitoring feature. The potential applications for different types of wounds, including chronic wounds and focus on infected, burn, and diabetic wounds, are discussed, along with proposed future directions for hydrogel wound dressings in wound healing.

Enhanced cellular engraftment of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell spheroids by using nanosheets as scaffolds

Hisato Nagano et al.

Summary: Transplanting ASC spheroids onto skin wounds can prolong cell survival time and facilitate the healing of refractory ulcers. Using a nanosheet as a carrier, ASC spheroids survived for 14 days and significantly reduced the ulcer size. This method shows potential for cell therapy in treating various challenging skin wounds.
