Stable Characteristics Optimization of Anti-Symmetric Cylindrical Shell with Laminated Carbon Fiber Composite

Min Sun et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a multi-objective optimization model for an anti-symmetric cylindrical shell in a bionic gripper structure. It establishes multiple surrogate models using the response surface method and optimizes the design space using the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). The design points are verified experimentally. The optimization aims to minimize the first steady state transition load and maximize the second steady state transition load, while preventing stable instability caused by stress concentration. The validity of the optimization results is verified through finite element and experimental methods. The anti-symmetric cylindrical shell shows potential application prospects in deformable structures and bionic structures due to its significantly larger stable transition load compared to orthogonal laminated plates.

Novel Deployable Panel Structure Integrated with Thick Origami and Morphing Bistable Composite Structures

Shuyong Ding et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel deployable panel structure that integrates a bistable composite structure and thick panel based on the thick origami technique. The trigger force and load-displacement curves of the structure are obtained through experiments and numerical simulations. Factors affecting the coverage area-to-package volume ratio and trigger force are discussed. Experimental and numerical results confirm the structure's two stable configurations and large coverage area-to-package volume ratio.

Bistable characteristics of hybrid composite laminates embedded with bimetallic strips

Zheng Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel bistable hybrid composite laminate embedded with bimetallic strips was designed, combining stable-state characteristics with temperature-sensing characteristics. A contactless method deforms the bimetallic strip through the temperature field to drive the bistable laminate and control curvature. The new laminates have different curvatures in different stable states, and can be easily driven by changing ambient temperature.
