Applying heat flux method to laminar burning velocity measurements of NH3/CH4/air at elevated pressures and kinetic modeling study

Shixing Wang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the combustion of NH3 blended fuels under elevated pressure conditions and proposes a new kinetic mechanism (CEU-NH3-Mech-1.1) based on experimental results. The new mechanism shows good predictability for laminar flame speed, ignition delay time, and species concentration in ammonia oxidation at high temperatures. Additionally, the study reveals the variation of pressure exponent with ammonia content and its role in validating kinetic mechanisms.

Laminar burning velocity, Markstein length, and cellular instability of spherically propagating NH3/H2/Air premixed flames at moderate pressures

Huizhen Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the laminar combustion characteristics of NH3/H-2/air mixtures through experiments and numerical simulations. The results indicate that the hydrogen ratio has a significant influence on the laminar burning velocity under moderate pressure, and the pressure also affects the burning velocity to some extent. The flame morphology demonstrates the presence of instability in NH3-H-2 flames under specific conditions. Furthermore, discrepancies between different reaction mechanisms and experimental results are observed.

Study of combustion and NO chemical reaction mechanism in ammonia blended with DME

Xiangyu Meng et al.

Summary: This study developed a detailed chemical reaction mechanism and investigated the combustion and emission mechanism for NH3/DME dual-fuel combustion. It was found that fuel NOx still dominates the total NOx production in NH3/DME combustion, and DME addition promotes the NO formation reaction.

Combustion behavior of ammonia blended with diethyl ether

Gani Issayev et al.

Summary: Ammonia is considered a promising carbon-free hydrogen-carrier fuel. Research on ammonia/diethyl ether blends shows that DEE promotes reactivity and shortens the ignition delay times of ammonia. Pressure and equivalence ratio have significant effects on the combustion characteristics of the blends.

Summary: This study presents new quantitative measurements of NO concentrations in n-propanol and i-propanol flames, along with a new combustion kinetic model. Experimental results show different NO formation characteristics between the two types of flames. The present mechanism exhibits the best agreement in emulating NO experimental profiles, with some uncertainties in reproducing NO formation in the prompt region.

An experimental and modeling study of ammonia with enriched oxygen content and ammonia/hydrogen laminar flame speed at elevated pressure and temperature

Krishna Prasad Shrestha et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the laminar flame speeds of ammonia and ammonia-hydrogen blends under different temperature, pressure, and oxygen content conditions, and developed a new kinetic model for predicting the oxidation mechanisms, considering the formation and reduction of nitrogen oxides. The results showed that the laminar flame speed increases with increasing initial temperature, fuel hydrogen content, or oxidizer oxygen content, but decreases with increasing initial pressure. The proposed kinetic model predicts the same trends as experiments and highlights the importance of N2H2 formation under rich conditions.

Summary: This study investigates the oxidation of ammonia/hydrogen mixtures at intermediate temperatures using experimental and modeling approaches. The results show that hydrogen blending enhances the oxidation reactivity of ammonia, leading to increased OH radical production and accelerated ammonia consumption. Non-monotonous trends in NOx formation are observed at 99% conversion of ammonia, influenced by the competition between dilution and chemical effects of hydrogen addition.

Numerical investigation of the effects of H2/CO/syngas additions on laminar premixed combustion characteristics of NH3/air flame

Zhiqiang Chen et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the laminar premixed combustion characteristics of NH3/air flame with various H-2/CO/SYN addition loadings, and found that H-2 has the greatest effects on increasing laminar burning velocities and net heat release rates, while CO significantly improves the adiabatic flame temperatures. The addition of H-2/CO/SYN can accelerate NH3 decomposition rates and promote the generation of radicals, showing a positive linear correlation with laminar burning velocities.

Ignition delay times of NH3/DME blends at high pressure and low DME fraction: RCM experiments and simulations

Liming Dai et al.

Summary: The autoignition delay times of ammonia/dimethyl ether (NH3/DME) mixtures are significantly affected by the percentage of DME and pressure. The oxidation of DME occurs more rapidly than that of ammonia during the ignition process, leading to the initiation of ammonia oxidation and heat release that accelerates the overall oxidation process towards ignition.
