Production of efficient activated carbon from sawdust for the removal of dyes in single and binary systems - a full factorial design

Summary: Activated carbons were prepared from sawdust using NaOH as an impregnating agent, and a full factorial plan was adopted for optimization. Impregnation ratio and ratio-temperature interaction were found to be significant factors in influencing the efficiency of dye elimination. AC1 showed high specific surface area and maximum elimination of dyes in both single and binary systems.

Modelling, kinetics and equilibrium studies of crystal violet adsorption on modified montmorillonite by sodium dodecyl sulfate and hyamine surfactants

Summary: Two novel adsorbents, montmorillonite-hyamine and montmorillonite-hyamine-sodium dodecyl sulfate, were synthesized using montmorillonite nanoparticles for the removal of crystal violet from water. Various techniques were used to characterize the modified montmorillonite and montmorillonite nanoparticles. The adsorption capacity of the Mnt-hyamine-SDS adsorbent for crystal violet removal was found to be high at 690.69 mg g(-1) and the adsorbent dosage was identified as the most critical variable for dye removal.

Different alkyl chain lengths and amounts of alkylammonium ions led to variations in the basal spacings of the intercalation compounds. The adsorption efficiency of alkylammonium-bentonites significantly increased, with a minimal decrease after multiple cycles of adsorption.
