Tuning the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Co/Pt multilayers grown by facing target sputtering and conventional sputtering

Oguz Yildirim et al.

Summary: By controlling the sputtering voltage, the magnetic properties of multilayer films can be tailored, with improved crystalline texture leading to larger magnetic anisotropies and coercive fields without the need for heat treatment. However, higher cathode voltage may result in decreased crystalline texture quality and reduced effective anisotropy.

Efficient and controllable magnetization switching induced by intermixing-enhanced bulk spin-orbit torque in ferromagnetic multilayers

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates efficient bulk spin-orbit torque-induced perpendicular magnetization switching under relatively low critical current density in thick Pt/Co multilayers with gradient-induced symmetry breaking. Through tuning the thickness gradient of Pt, the efficiency and chirality of spin-orbit torque can be highly controlled. Atomic intermixing is found to significantly enhance the spin-orbit torque efficiency.

Thermal Stability of Ultrathin Co/Pt Multilayers

Nicholas Figueiredo-Prestes et al.

Summary: Multilayered films consisting of Co/Pt bilayers grown in a Pt buffer layer exhibit reversible structural and magnetic behaviors during heating processes, with the loss of integrity at interfaces observed above 500K. The formation of a CoXPt1-X solid solution and deterioration of chemical modulation at interfaces were found to be driven by atomic migration above this temperature, leading to the loss of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Below 490K, the films show effective linear thermal expansion coefficient and remanence to saturation magnetization ratio.
