Poly(vinylidene fluoride)/poly(styrene-co-acrylic acid) nanofibers as potential materials for blood separation

Antoine Venault et al.

Summary: This work investigates the association of P(S-r-AA) copolymer with PVDF in the fabrication of electrospun fibers for blood filtration, showing improved wetting of nanofibers and enhanced separation and retention of white blood cells. The results demonstrate the potential of PVDF-based nanofibers as efficient separation media for whole blood, with further efforts needed to enhance biocompatibility and red blood cell recovery.

Double filtration plasmapheresis: Review of current clinical applications

Ryuichiro Hirano et al.

Summary: DFPP is a blood purification modality that uses two types of filters to separate blood plasma into different molecular weight components, discarding harmful substances and returning valuable substances to the patient. It is beneficial in reducing replacement fluid volume and can be applied to various disorders based on the optimal pore size model for the plasma component separator.

Towards high-performance polysulfone membranes: A controllable membrane formation process using surfactant in NIPS

Xiao Kong et al.

Summary: Increasing the molecular weight and addition contents of pore forming agents have been acknowledged as effective ways to improve permeability in membranes fabricated via nonsolvent induced phase separation (NIPS). However, these techniques negatively impact the overall pore size and mechanical strength of the resulting membranes. Facilitating the mutual diffusion of water (coagulant) and dope solutions (MDWDS) during NIPS is the key to obtain porous membranes with high permeability.

Advances in materials process and separation mechanism of the membrane towards hydrogen separation

Neha Pal et al.

Summary: The article reviews membrane separation approaches for hydrogen separation, highlighting the advantages of polymeric and mixed matrix membranes. The hydrogen separation mechanism in membranes depends on morphology and can involve various gas transport mechanisms. The use of polymer and inorganic fillers in mixed matrix membranes makes the gas separation mechanism complex but can lead to improved hydrogen separation efficiency.
