Relationships of total phosphorus and chlorophyll in lakes worldwide

Roberto Quinlan et al.

Summary: The study found a sigmoidal relationship between total phosphorus and chlorophyll a in lakes, explaining 44% of the variation. Physical characteristics of lakes such as mean depth, Secchi depth, and elevation played a role in mediating the TP-Chla relationship. Nonlinear segments of this relationship were more prominent in lakes located in very cold or hot climates.

Method for phosphate oxygen isotopes analysis in water based on in situ enrichment, elution, and purification

Yong Liu et al.

Summary: A new method called in situ enrichment, elution, and purification of PO4 (ISEEP) was developed for delta O-18(P) analysis in waters, showing high efficiency in adsorption and elution processes with a high recovery rate of 92.8% for phosphate (PO4). The method can obtain high-purity solids for delta O-18(P) measurement.

Water-level fluctuations regulate the availability and diffusion kinetics process of phosphorus at lake water-sediment interface

Hezhong Yuan et al.

Summary: Sequential extraction and in-situ diffusive gradient techniques were used to determine phosphorus fractions and fluxes in sediment systems, suggesting Fe-bound P as the dominant pool contributing to P resupply. Under oxidic conditions, labile P was more obviously immobilized and water-level fluctuations significantly regulated P adsorption-desorption processes.

The origin of sediment and particulate phosphorus inputs into water bodies in the Swiss Midlands - A twenty-year field study of soil erosion

D. Remund et al.

Summary: The study on arable land in the Swiss Midlands found that sediment and particulate phosphorus inputs from soil erosion significantly contribute to water pollution, with high temporal and spatial variability. Most of the sediment and phosphorus input into water bodies occurred indirectly through drainage pipes, indicating the importance of drainage infrastructure in water pollution control.
