Multiple hydrogen bonds enhancing formaldehyde adsorption on functionalized zigzag graphene nanoribbons

Mengmeng He et al.

Summary: In this study, density functional theory was used to modify armchair-edged graphene nanoribbons and zigzag-edged graphene nanoribbons through functionalization, creating a candidate for designing formaldehyde sensors. Simulation results showed that the interactions between the functionalized nanoribbons and formaldehyde were mainly determined by multiple hydrogen bonds. Specifically designed functionalized nanoribbons could act as a physical sensor for detecting formaldehyde molecules.

Phenyl-Modified Carbon Nitride Quantum Nanoflakes for Ultra-Highly Selective Sensing of Formic Acid: A Combined Experimental by QCM and Density Functional Theory Study

Nagy L. Torad et al.

Summary: This study introduces a chemical sensor based on a QCM sensor capable of rapidly detecting trace amounts of formic acid. The sensor, prepared using a facile solid-state method, exhibits enhanced detection sensitivity and selectivity for formic acid, with a detection limit down to sub-ppm levels. The sensing technology based on phenyl-terminated attached-g-C3N4 nanoflakes provides a simple and low-cost solution for effectively discriminating formic acid vapors using smart electronic noses.

A Novel Selective Turn-On Fluorescent Chemosensor Based on Thiophene Appended Cyclotriphosphazene Schiff Base for Detection of Ag+ Ions

Sureyya Oguz Tumay

Summary: The designed and synthesized novel compounds, a cyclotriphosphazene based Schiff base and a salicylaldehyde-functionalized cyclotriphosphazene, demonstrated selective fluorescence turn-on response towards Ag+ ions. The binding and sensing mechanisms were evaluated through DFT calculations, and the practical application in environmental waters confirmed the selectivity and efficiency of the fluorescent sensor for Ag+ ions detection.
