Study on the suppression mechanism of (NH4)2CO3 and SiC for polyethylene deflagration based on flame propagation and experimental analysis

Yansong Zhang et al.

Summary: The PE industry is rapidly developing, but the presence of PE dust in the air is often associated with unexpected explosions. In this study, (NH4)2CO3 and SiC were used for the first time to suppress PE deflagration flames. The results showed that the flame propagation velocity and acceleration decrease with increasing mass fraction of (NH4)2CO3 and SiC. SiC physically suppresses PE explosions by reducing temperature and pressure, while (NH4)2CO3 suppresses explosions through physical and chemical effects. This study provides a theoretical and practical basis for preventing and controlling explosion accidents in the polyethylene industry.

Ultrasensitive Exhaled Breath Sensors Based on Anti-Resonant Hollow Core Fiber with In Situ Grown ZnO-Bi2O3 Nanosheets

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: The combination of ZnO-Bi2O3 nanosheets heterostructure grown on the surface of HCF enables the gas sensor to exhibit high sensitivity, selectivity, and repeatability for acetone detection at room temperature, particularly in the low concentration range. The successful application of the ZnO-Bi2O3 nanosheets on HCF also allows the sensor to distinguish exhaled breath from healthy individuals and simulated diabetic cases, paving the way for non-invasive, ultra-sensitive gas sensing at room temperature for early diabetes diagnosis.

AIEgens enabled ultrasensitive point-of-care test for multiple targets of food safety: Aflatoxin B1 and cyclopiazonic acid as an example

Xiaofeng Hu et al.

Summary: Food safety is a crucial issue for human health, and fluorescent nanomaterials have been used in point-of-care tests (POCT). However, previous materials may reduce detection sensitivity, while aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) show promise for enhancing sensitivity and throughput. AIEgens-based lateral-flow biosensors have been developed for on-site detection of mycotoxins with rapid response times and high sensitivity in peanut matrices.
