A Carbazole-Bridged Biscyclometalated Diplatinum Complex: Synthesis, Characterization, and Dual-Mode Aggregation-Enhanced Phosphorescence

Zhong-Liang Gong et al.

Summary: A cationic carbazole-bridged biscyclometalated diplatinum complex 4 has been synthesized and characterized, showing different fluorescence properties under different solvent conditions and enhanced phosphorescent emission in aggregate state. Analysis through X-ray and density functional theory calculations revealed that the phosphorescent emission enhancement is mainly caused by the oxygen-shielding effect and molecular rigidification-induced decrease of nonradiative decays in the aggregate state.

Origin of the Aggregation-Induced Phosphorescence of Platinum(II) Complexes: The Role of Metal-Metal Interactions on Emission Decay in the Crystalline State

Ryo Inoue et al.

Summary: In this study, the phosphorescence and deactivation processes of four classes of AIE active Pt(II) complexes in the crystalline state were described based on experimental and theoretical investigation. The role of metal-metal interaction in AIE and the mechanism of heat resistance against thermal emission quenching were clarified. The calculated energy profiles provided insights into the AIE expression.

Luminescent cyclometalated platinum(ii) complexes with acyclic diaminocarbene ligands: structural, photophysical and biological properties

Monica Martinez-Junquera et al.

Summary: This study synthesized four new cyclometalated Pt(ii) complexes bearing acyclic diaminocarbene (ADC) ligands and investigated their photophysical properties and antiproliferative properties through various experiments and analyses. The complexes exhibit green or orange phosphorescence and show aggregation induced emission in certain fluid solutions. Cytotoxicity studies also revealed good activity for these complexes, particularly in affecting DNA electrophoretic mobility.

Ligand-controlled and nanoconfinement-boosted luminescence employing Pt(ii) and Pd(ii) complexes: from color-tunable aggregation-enhanced dual emitters towards self-referenced oxygen reporters

Ivan Maisuls et al.

Summary: This work presents the synthesis, structural, and photophysical characteristics of novel Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes with high photoluminescence quantum yields and long excited state lifetimes. DFT calculations were used to interpret the results, showing the impact of incorporating fluorine atoms into the ligands and the achievement of room-temperature phosphorescence through a supramolecular approach. Encapsulation of the complexes in nanoparticles enables concentration-controlled aggregation-enhanced dual emission, supporting enhanced photoluminescence quantum yields up to 80% and extended excited state lifetimes exceeding 100 μs.

Recent advances in supramolecular self-assembly and biological applications of luminescent alkynylplatinum(II) polypyridine complexes

Vivian Wing-Wah Yam et al.

Summary: Platinum(II) complexes, with their square-planar molecular geometry, can self-assemble into supramolecular assemblies through axial interactions, showing promising applications. Alkynylplatinum(II) polypyridine complexes display excellent spectroscopic and luminescence properties for detection of biological analytes.
