Artificial neural network and statistical modelling of biosorptive removal of hexavalent chromium using macroalgal spent biomass

Ramesh Vinayagam et al.

Summary: This study focused on the sustainable removal of hexavalent chromium using sugarextracted spent marine macroalgal biomass. The adsorption process was studied under different conditions and optimized using statistical methods and artificial neural network models. The results showed that the macroalgal biomass had high adsorption efficiency for Cr(VI) under the optimal conditions, and the adsorption process could be effectively modeled and predicted using ANN.

Application of response surface methodology and artificial neural network for the preparation of Fe-loaded biochar for enhanced Cr(VI) adsorption and its physicochemical properties and Cr(VI) adsorption characteristics

Jin-Kyu Kang et al.

Summary: In this study, the conditions for synthesizing Fe-loaded food waste biochar (Fe@FWB) for Cr(VI) removal were optimized and explored using response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural network (ANN). The results showed that the pyrolysis temperature and Fe concentration had a significant effect on the Cr(VI) adsorption capacity of Fe@FWB, while the effect of pyrolysis time was relatively small. The optimized Fe@FWB (Fe@FWB-OPT) synthesized under the optimal conditions had a high Cr(VI) sorption capacity and the adsorption mechanism was mainly attributed to electrostatic attraction.

Thermally treated Mytilus coruscus shells for fluoride removal and their adsorption mechanism

Jae-In Lee et al.

Summary: Thermal treatment significantly enhanced the fluoride adsorption capacity of Mytilus coruscus shells, especially at 800 degrees C. The adsorption process primarily involved the formation of calcium fluorite. The adsorption capacity of MCS-800 was superior to untreated MCS due to its larger specific surface area and less negative charge after thermal treatment.

Summary: Forced degradation tests are used to evaluate the stability of APIs and their formulations by subjecting them to extreme conditions to identify degradation products. This study proposes the use of DoE approach in forced degradation of ABZ, revealing that ABZ oxidation is the main degradation route influenced by temperature. LC-IT-MSn identified three known degradation products and a new derivative of ABZ molecule, which was isolated and characterized by UPLC-QToF-MS and NMR analyses.

Jae-In Lee et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of oyster shell waste as an adsorbent for phosphorus recovery from eutrophic lakes and as a slow-release fertilizer for rice growth in soil. The thermally treated OySh-800 showed high phosphorus adsorption capacity, which significantly promoted rice growth in pot experiments.

Summary: Phosphorus (P) concentration beyond threshold limit can trigger eutrophication in stagnant water bodies, while low P concentration can also be detrimental for ecosystem's health. Utilizing valorized bivalve seashells for the removal of low P content has shown to be an effective and sustainable approach in the study.

Adsorptive removal of fluoride using biochar - A potential application in drinking water treatment

Mohini Sadhu et al.

Summary: The study found that Watermelon Rind Biochar (WMRBC) has potential for removing fluoride from groundwater, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 9.5 mg/g. The adsorption process is spontaneous and exothermic, while the presence of other anions has little effect. Characterization studies suggest that fluoride adsorption may be achieved through electrostatic attraction and precipitation on mineral sites.

Overview of fluoride removal from water using separation techniques

Parwathi Pillai et al.

Summary: Fluoride contamination, caused by both natural and anthropogenic activities, poses a major threat to human health globally. Various methods for defluoridation such as coagulation-precipitation and adsorption are used, with India relying mainly on the former. The Nalgonda method is utilized in developing nations for fluoride removal, while adsorption is widely used due to its cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

A comparative adsorption kinetic modeling of fluoride adsorption by nanoparticles and its polymeric nanocomposite

Mohit Chaudhary et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the Fe-Al-Mn@chitosan composite is a more efficient adsorbent for fluoride ions compared to mixed metal oxide nanoparticles alone, with the polymer layers in the composite providing minimal resistance to internal pore diffusion. The diffusion coefficients of fluoride ions were estimated for both types of adsorbents, showing that the composite had a significantly higher accessible adsorption front radius compared to the mixed metal oxyhydroxide NPs.

Removal of nickel from aqueous solutions using natural clay from northern morocco

M. Loutfi et al.

Summary: In this study, natural Moroccan clay was used to effectively remove Ni(II) metal ions from model aqueous solutions. The adsorption capacity of nickel was influenced by the initial concentration of metal ions, contact time, and pH of the solution, while increasing the amount of adsorbent led to a decrease in adsorption. Kinetics studies showed that the adsorption process followed pseudo-second order kinetics, and equilibrium adsorption results were better described by the Freundlich isotherm. Thermodynamic studies indicated an endothermic nature of the adsorption process.
