Thermodynamic analysis and optimization of auto-thermal supercritical water gasification polygeneration system of pig manure

Changyifan Ren et al.

Summary: A large amount of livestock manure is produced globally every year, necessitating environmentally friendly utilization methods to reduce pollution and generate energy. SCWG, a promising technology, can convert high moisture pig manure into hydrogen. By optimizing an auto-thermal SCWG system with in-situ hydrogen separation and waste heat recovery, energy efficiency can be improved and exergy loss reduced.

Study on the polystyrene plastic degradation in supercritical water/CO2 mixed environment and carbon fixation of polystyrene plastic in CO2 environment

Shiyu Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that gasification of PS in supercritical water with CO2 can achieve a high carbon conversion efficiency. PS was hardly gasified at 400 degrees C, with the liquid composition changing as the temperature rose. In addition, it was observed that PS can react with CO2 to generate CO in CO2 atmosphere.

Novel process design of desalination wastewater recovery for CO2 and SOX utilization

Sunghyun Cho et al.

Summary: Desalination is an effective method for industrial water supply, but it generates a large amount of wastewater. This study proposes a novel process for recovering CO2 and SOx from desalination wastewater, which can capture and utilize about 91% of the CO2 and achieve a desulfurization efficiency of 99%. The process is profitable and suitable for large-capacity operations.

Tunable syngas production from two-stage sorption-enhanced steam gasification of sewage sludge

Xiaoxia Yang et al.

Summary: Syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, is an important feedstock for the production of chemicals and fuels. The tunable H2/CO ratio of syngas produced through sorption-enhanced steam gasification of sewage sludge offers a promising approach to integrate biomass gasification with syngas application, allowing for the production of value-added products. The potential of two-stage SESG in promoting tar decomposition for enhanced syngas production is also highlighted.

Process intensification of CO2 capture by low-aqueous solvent

Gyoung G. Jang et al.

Summary: This study investigates a novel intensified packing device for amine-CO2 scrubbing using low-aqueous solvent, which enhances heat and mass transfer efficiency to reduce the thermal energy consumption for solvent regeneration and improve CO2 capture efficiency under a wide range of operating conditions. The multifunctional intensified device facilitates contact between reactive solvent and gas phases in a single stage, while also allowing heat removal through a cooling fluid, leading to effective thermal management and significant improvement in CO2 uptake.
