Reduction of iron oxide by hydrogen spillover over Pt/TiO2 and Pt/Al2O3 surfaces

Abhishek D. Yewale et al.

Summary: A two-dimensional model was developed to predict the reduction of iron oxide via hydrogen spillover in Pt/TiO2 and Pt/Al2O3 catalytic systems. Reduction over TiO2 was found to be independent of the distance between Pt and iron oxide particles, while reduction over Al2O3 was distance-dependent due to the characteristic time for diffusion of hydrogen on Al2O3.

Unveiling the reaction pathway on Cu/CeO2 catalyst for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction to CH4

Lei Xue et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the Cu/CeO2 catalyst for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction, showing that the nanorod Cu/CeO2 catalyst exhibits high selectivity for CO2-to-CH4 conversion with the highest turnover frequency. The catalyst possesses the largest electrochemically active surface area, higher proportion of O-vacancy sites, and better capability of CO2 adsorption and activation, contributing to its high activity. Theoretical calculations reveal that the doping of Cu into CeO2 can significantly lower the reaction energy barrier and change the reaction pathway, improving the catalytic performance for CO2 electroreduction.

CO2 hydrogenation to methanol on tungsten-doped Cu/CeO2 catalysts

Yong Yan et al.

Summary: The catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol can be improved by doping tungsten into CeO2, resulting in a Cu/CeW0.25Ox catalyst with enhanced activity and selectivity. Experimental investigation reveals that this promotion effect is attributed to the reduction of Ce4+ to Ce3+ by W-doping, the suppression of oxygen vacancy formation on CeO2, and the activation of the formate pathway for CO2 hydrogenation. This catalyst design strategy differs from conventional CeO2-supported catalysts.

Insights into the Selectivity Determinant and Rate-Determining Step of CO2 Hydrogenation to Methanol

Chizhou Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism and factors affecting selectivity of CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. The results showed that a higher selectivity of methanol is associated with a higher amount of stable HCOO* on the catalysts, while CO2 adsorption inhibits H-2 activation and H* migration. Moreover, the migration of H* on the catalysts is considered as the rate-determining step.

Highly dispersed metal doping to ZnZr oxide catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol: Insight into hydrogen spillover

Di Xu et al.

Summary: The addition of a small amount of Cu into ZnZrOx can enhance the efficiency of CO2 hydrogenation to methanol, with the optimized catalyst showing higher CO2 conversion and methanol yield at comparable methanol selectivity. This improvement is attributed to the enhanced hydrogenation capacity and accelerated transformation of key intermediates caused by hydrogen spillover from well dispersed Cu.

Investigating the role of oxygen vacancies and basic site density in tuning methanol selectivity over Cu/CeO2 catalyst during CO2 hydrogenation

Rajan Singh et al.

Summary: The study focuses on CeO2, ZrO2 and ZnO supported Cu catalysts, with Cu/ZnO showing the highest CO2 conversion rate and Cu/CeO2 demonstrating over 90% methanol selectivity at lower temperatures. The high methanol selectivity of Cu/CeO2 catalyst may be attributed to its excess surface oxygen vacancies and higher basic site density.

Tailoring the Physicochemical Properties of Mg Promoted Catalysts via One Pot Non-ionic Surfactant Assisted Co-precipitation Route for CO2 Co-feeding Syngas to Methanol

Komal Tripathi et al.

Summary: The surface modification of Mg-promoted CuZn catalysts via non-ionic surfactant assisted co-precipitation route is an effective approach for efficient CO/CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. Varying the surfactant/(CuZnMg) molar ratios led to differences in physical properties and methanol selectivity, with CuZnMg (III) showing the highest total carbon conversion and methanol selectivity.

Summary: The synergistic interaction between small Cu particles and MgO/ZnO-supported catalysts synthesized by the hydrothermal method results in a high methanol production rate. The high activity of the catalyst may be attributed to the high Cu dispersion and large Cu surface area. The MgO support plays a promoting role in CO2 adsorption, leading to a preference for the selective CO2 hydrogenation pathway.
