Revealing the dimensional stability mechanisms of SiC/Al composite under long-term thermal cycling

Deng Gong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dimensional stability mechanisms of SiC/Al composites during thermal cycling using high-precision thermal dilatometer, XRD and Cs-TEM. The study reveals the integrated effect of dislocations, internal stress and precipitates on the dimensional change of SiC/Al composites. It is found that SiC/2024Al composites show significantly higher dimensional stability, which is important for improving the reliability of precision instruments.
