Photocatalytic CO2 reduction to HCOOH over core-shell Cu@Cu2O catalysts

Summary: In this study, uniform core-shell nanoparticles composed of a Cu core encapsulated by a Cu2O shell were fabricated by thermal treatment of a Cu-MOF precursor, showing catalytic activity in the conversion of CO2 to HCOOH. Mechanistic studies revealed that the Cu2O shell acted as the active sites for the adsorption and activation of CO2, contributing to the high HCOOH production rate achieved without any additives at room temperature.

Insight into carbon quantum dot-vesicles interactions: role of functional groups

Summary: Understanding the interaction between carbon quantum dots and cell membranes is crucial for designing effective nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems. This study investigated the interaction between phosphatidylcholine vesicles (as model cell membrane) and carbon quantum dots with different functional groups. The results showed that carbon dots with -NH2 functional groups exhibited strong binding with the vesicles. These findings provide insights for biomedical researchers to design efficient carbon-based nanomaterials as drug/gene delivery vehicles.

Additionally, the fabricated nanosized photocatalyst showed outstanding recycled photocatalytic capability, maintaining 59.9% activity after four cycles, indicating its potential for widespread use in wastewater treatment.

Metal-free CQDs introduced g-C3N4 nanosheets with enhanced photocatalytic reduction performance of uranium (VI)

Summary: In this study, carbon quantum dot modified carbon nitride (CD-C3N4) composite photocatalytic material was used to convert soluble U(VI) to insoluble U(IV) under visible light. The photocatalytic performance was significantly enhanced with the introduction of carbon quantum dots, achieving a U(VI) removal rate of 97.19% after 120 minutes of irradiation. This research holds great potential for the design of CQDs-based photocatalysts in radioactive contamination treatment.

The excellent synergy between NPCQDs and TiO2 nanoparticles resulted in the generation of virtual energy levels and the suppression of electron recombination rates, thereby increasing the lifetime of photogenerated electrons.
