Effect of nonequivalent substitution of Pr3+/4+ with Ca2+ in PrBaCoFeO5+δ as cathodes for IT-SOFC

Fangjun Jin et al.

Summary: By utilizing a Ca doping strategy, a novel double-perovskite material Pr1-xCaxBaCoFeO5+delta (PCBCF) was successfully prepared, showing promising electrochemical performance for oxygen reduction reactions in intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells. The introduction of Ca2+ effectively reduced thermal expansion coefficient and material costs, while improving oxygen catalytic activity. The optimal composition x = 0.1 demonstrated the best catalytic activity and durability, making it a potential candidate for cathode applications.

Proton-conducting ceramic fuel cells: Scale up and stack integration

Long Q. Le et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the scaling up of proton-conducting ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) into small, multi-cell stacks with reasonable performance and low degradation through material tuning, fabrication procedures, and operating condition adjustments. Specific materials such as the BCZYYb electrolyte and the BCFZY cathode, as well as packaging with ferritic-steel interconnects and macor frames, contribute to the long-term durability and performance of the fuel cell stacks.

Facile Synthesis of Lanthanum Strontium Cobalt Ferrite (LSCF) Nanopowders Employing an Ion-Exchange Promoted Sol-Gel Process

Sri Rahayu et al.

Summary: Perovskite nanopowders of lanthanum strontium cobalt ferrite (LSCF) were successfully synthesized using the alginate mediated ion-exchange process, exhibiting high electrical conductivity, low polarizability, high catalytic activity, enhanced chemical stability, and high compatibility with ceria based solid electrolytes, making them promising cathode materials for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells. The optimal calcination temperature of 700 degrees C was determined for the synthesis of single phase nanopowders of LSCF, with the potential for scaling-up the manufacturing process indicated by TGA analysis showing a yield of 360 kg of LSCF nanopowders per ton of dried beads.
