Effect of post-oxidation processes and thickness of SnO2 films prepared by vacuum evaporation on CO gas sensing characteristics

Amit Kumar Mauraya et al.

Summary: This report discusses the effects of post-oxidation processes and thickness of SnO2 thin films on their physical properties and CO gas sensing characteristics. The results show that SnO2 films produced by direct-oxidation method exhibit higher CO sensitivity, with thinner films showing even higher sensitivity and selectivity towards CO gas compared to step-oxidized films.

Growth and luminescence characteristics of zinc oxide thin films deposited by ALD technique

Jagannath Panigrahi et al.

Summary: A strong correlation exists between the defect-mediated luminescence of zinc oxide thin films deposited using atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique and the deposition temperature. Films with minimal defects are obtained at 150 degrees C, while distinct long-wavelength luminescence features are observed for yellow and green at lower and higher temperature regimes, both at 150 degrees C. The decay time for yellow and green luminescence differs, with slower decay components for yellow luminescence.

TiO2/Cu2O/CuO Multi-Nanolayers as Sensors for H2 and Volatile Organic Compounds: An Experimental and Theoretical Investigation

Oleg Lupan et al.

Summary: TiO2/Cu2O/CuO multi-nanolayers grown by a spray-sputtering-annealing approach exhibited high sensitivity towards VOCs and H2, with sensors containing 20 to 30 nm thick CuO/Cu2O nanolayers showing a strong response to ethanol vapor. Additionally, the transition in response from ethanol vapor to hydrogen gas was observed as the thickness of the CuO/Cu2O nanolayers changed. The study also investigated the sensing mechanism and heteroepitaxial interfaces through computational analysis, providing insights into the practical applications of the multi-nanolayered films as reliable gas sensors.

Chemistry of Oxygen Ionosorption on SnO2 Surfaces

Kostiantyn Sopiha et al.

Summary: The study investigated charged oxygen-related species on three naturally occurring surfaces of SnO2 and found that upon adsorption of atmospheric oxygen, superoxide O2- and doubly ionized O2- can spontaneously form, with the latter being identified as the source of sensing response. The doubly ionized O2- species induces a large displacement of surface Sn, resembling the coordination of Sn2+ in SnO, which is necessary for stabilizing O2- and activating metal-oxide surfaces for gas sensing.
