Autogenous shrinkage and hydration property of alkali activated slag pastes containing superabsorbent polymer

Dongbing Jiang et al.

Summary: The addition of superabsorbent polymer (SAP) as internal curing agent can significantly reduce the autogenous shrinkage of alkali activated slag (AAS) pastes and promote the formation of C-A-S-H gels and hydrotalcite-like phases. However, the addition of SAP also increases the capillary pore size and pore volume of the pastes, leading to a decrease in compressive strength.

Microstructural evolution and carbonation behavior of lime-slag binary binders

Joonho Seo et al.

Summary: The carbonation of lime-slag binary binders results in stable carbonates, pore refinement, and strength enhancement; compared to other binders, lime-slag binary binders exhibit less shrinkage during the process. The carbonation shrinkage behavior of lime-slag binary binders is similar to that of cement due to the presence of portlandite as a carbonation buffer.

Activation mechanisms of three types of industrial by-product gypsums on steel slag-granulated blast furnace slag-based binders

Chengwen Xu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the activation and hydration mechanisms of different types of industrial by-product gypsum on steel slag-granulated blast furnace slag based binders. Results showed that binder with desulphurisation ash (DA) had lower early strength and higher long-term strength, while desulphurisation gypsum (DG) and fluor gypsum (FG) contributed to the formation of C-S-H gels and ettringite, leading to strength improvements. Further studies are needed to explore the potential applications of DA and FG as alternative solid waste materials.
