Summary: The study focuses on the corrosion behavior of prestrained steel bars embedded in chloride-contaminated cement mortar under laboratory conditions. The plastic strains induced in the rebars affect their corrosion susceptibility, leading to higher corrosion amount compared to unstrained rebars. The correlation between the degree of straining and corrosion-induced cracks has been established after 18 months of exposure.

Beneficial and detrimental effects of molybdate as an inhibitor on reinforcing steels in saturated Ca(OH)2 solution: Spontaneous passivation

Miao Wu et al.

Summary: Molybdate was found to promote the spontaneous passivation of low-carbon steel and a novel 10% Cr steel in saturated Ca(OH)(2) solution, with its passivation capability increasing with higher concentrations. However, excessive levels of molybdate were shown to have a detrimental effect on the passivation of the 10% Cr steel after 10 days of exposure. This suggests a potential passivation mechanism for molybdate on steels in alkaline solution.

Inhibitive effect of sodium molybdate on corrosion behaviour of AA6061 aluminium alloy in simulated concrete pore solutions

Danqian Wang et al.

Summary: The corrosion inhibition of MoO42 for AA6061 aluminum alloy in simulated concrete pore solutions was studied. Low concentration (6 mM) of MoO42 was ineffective in inhibiting corrosion, while concentrations of 10-30 mM were effective, following Langmuir adsorption isotherm. MoO42 acts as an anodic inhibitor, with 10 mM showing the optimum corrosion inhibition efficiency. The formation of uniform and inhomogeneous oxide layers was observed at different concentrations of MoO42.

Beneficial and detrimental impacts of molybdate on corrosion resistance of steels in alkaline concrete pore solution with high chloride contamination

Summary: This study examines the corrosion inhibition of molybdate on low-carbon steel and 10% Cr steel under high chloride contamination. Results show that molybdate can effectively inhibit chloride-induced corrosion on low-carbon steel, but has a detrimental impact on the corrosion resistance of 10% Cr steel. The formation and breakdown of passive films are key factors in determining the beneficial and detrimental effects of molybdate on the corrosion resistance of different steels.

Surface characteristics and electrochemical behaviors of passive reinforcing steel in alkali-activated slag

Yangyang Wang et al.

Summary: In alkali-activated slag, the corrosion behavior of reinforcing steel is significantly influenced by the passive film. A 60 nm adsorption aluminate/silicate layer is formed on the surface of the reinforcing steel, while the influence of S2- leads to a less compact passive film with FeS, resulting in lower resistance. However, the reinforcing steel still shows slightly higher charge transfer resistance in the SSP solution due to the barrier effect of the adsorption layer.
