Influence of Water Amount and Immersion Time on the Sisal Fibers Hornification Process

Sophia Mendes et al.

Summary: Hornification is a phenomenon that can be promoted by wetting and drying treatment, leading to an improvement in fiber mechanical behavior and reduction in water absorption and dimensional variation. Lower fiber/water ratios provide better hornification effects, while immersion times of 3 hours can efficiently enhance tensile strength and increase stiffness in all studied cases.

Impact of shredding degree on papermaking potential of recycled waste

Aneta Lipkiewicz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of initial fiber length on the tensile properties of paper, finding that changes in fiber length significantly influenced many pulp and paper properties. Cutting paper into pieces with an area less than 25 mm² caused significant changes in the important morphological parameters of the fibers and a sharp decrease in the tensile properties of the reconstituted paper.
