Regeneration of glomerular metabolism and function by podocyte pyruvate kinase M2 in diabetic nephropathy

Jialin Fu et al.

Summary: This study reveals that overexpression of PKM2 in podocytes can protect against diabetic nephropathy by preserving glomerular mitochondrial function through the activation of paracrine factors such as VEGF. The findings suggest that PKM2 may be a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy.

Diabetic Kidney Disease, Endothelial Damage, and Podocyte-Endothelial Crosstalk

Cindy Lora Gil et al.

Summary: Diabetes-related complications, such as diabetic kidney disease, are a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Chronic hyperglycemia can lead to endothelial cell dysfunction, disrupting the molecular crosstalk between endothelium and podocytes. Current therapies primarily focus on glycemia and blood pressure control, but overlook the importance of targeting endothelial dysfunction.
