The uniform and octahedral shaped Mn3O4 nanoparticles are successfully synthesized and anchored on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets by a simple hydrothermal method. The rGO-Mn3O4 composite exhibits higher OER activity and durability in 1.0 M KOH, with smaller overpotential, lower Tafel slope, higher TOF value, high faradaic efficiency, and long-term durability.
The uniform and octahedral shaped Mn3O4 and its reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite are successfully prepared by simple hydrothermal method. The morphological characterization reveals that the octahedral shaped Mn3O4 nanoparticles are well anchored on rGO sheets and are uniformly distributed without accumu-lation. The rGO-Mn3O4 composite exhibits higher OER activity and durability in 1.0 M KOH. The rGO-Mn3O4 composite requires a smaller overpotential of 420 mV to achieve the current density of 10 mA/cm2, lower Tafel slope (54 mV/dec), high TOF value (0.0158 s-1), high faradaic efficiency (97%) and long-term durability (16 h).
