A novel polyoxoniobate catalyst containing peroxo groups was synthesized using commercial niobium oxide as a precursor, and its catalytic activity was evaluated for the oxidation reaction of cyclohexene. The results showed promising catalytic performance of the new material in selective oxidation of cyclohexene, indicating its potential application in niobium compounds.
A commercial niobium oxide was used to form a gelled material, which was lyophilized producing a novel polyoxoniobate catalyst (L-AmNbO) containing peroxo groups. The activity of this new catalyst was assessed through oxidation reactions of the cyclohexene. In the presence of L-AmNbO catalyst, the oxidation of cyclohexene with H2O2 reached 90% of conversion after 12 h at 75 degrees C, with selectivity for 1,2-cyclohexanediol (similar to 50%). The catalytic results and the surface properties of this new material indicated that it can be a promising catalyst for niobium compounds applications in the selective oxidation of cyclohexene.
