Enhanced corrosion and wear resistance of gradient graphene-CrC nanocomposite coating on stainless steel

Mengdi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the preparation of graphene-CrC nanocomposite coatings on stainless steel using mechanical ball milling, significantly improving the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. The graphene coatings were strongly bonded on the stainless steel surface by C-Cr bonding, leading to a remarkable reduction in corrosion rates at temperatures between 293-328K.

Review on the corrosion-promotion activity of graphene and its inhibition

Wen Sun et al.

Summary: Graphene films and graphene-reinforced nanocomposite coatings have attracted significant attention for corrosion protection due to their chemical inertness and impermeability to aggressive chemicals. However, the potential for high corrosion-promotion activity in graphene-based metal protectors presents a challenge that researchers are actively working to address for future applications.

Graphene coating on a nickel-copper alloy (Monel 400) for microbial corrosion resistance: Electrochemical and surface characterizations

Saad Al-Saadi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that graphene coating deposited on Monel 400 alloy surface by chemical vapour deposition can effectively enhance its corrosion resistance in a marine environment containing sulphate reducing bacteria. The coating, replacing the native protective oxide layer, shows superior corrosion resistance in both abiotic and biotic solutions. The post-corrosion characterization using SEM and FTIR supports the electrochemical results.

Homogeneously Dispersed Graphene Nanoplatelets as Long-Term Corrosion Inhibitors for Aluminum Matrix Composites

Yuming Xie et al.

Summary: Deformation-driven metallurgy was used to prepare graphene nanoplatelet-reinforced aluminum matrix composites, resulting in enhanced corrosion resistance through severe plastic deformation and homogeneously dispersed graphene nanoplatelets. The formation of a carbon-doped protective film in a chloride-containing environment contributed to the great corrosion inhibition mechanism of the composites.

Air-Stable Titanium Carbide MXene Nanosheets for Corrosion Protection

Hongran Zhao et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the preparation of oxidation-resistant and highly stable MXene nanosheets through noncovalent functionalization for enhanced corrosion protection in waterborne epoxy coatings. The improved anticorrosion performance was confirmed by electrochemical analysis and visual observation of reduced corrosion on steel surfaces coated with the MXene-enhanced epoxy.
