An innovative approach to recover anode from spent lithium-ion battery

Ning Cao et al.

Summary: The paper proposes an effective and clean process for recycling anode materials from lithium-ion batteries and reusing graphite, achieving good results. By separating graphite and copper foil through electrolysis and adjusting parameters during the process, high-purity recovery of copper foil and graphite is achieved for preparing new lithium-ion batteries with excellent performance.

Elucidating the structural redox behaviors of nanostructured expanded graphite anodes toward fast-charging and high-performance lithium-ion batteries

Dong-Kyu Son et al.

Summary: In this study, systematic thermal exfoliation of expandable graphite was conducted to investigate the structural redox behaviors of nanostructured EGs as high-rate anodes for Li-ion storage. The results showed that subtle changes in the thermal exfoliation time significantly affect the microstructure and Li-ion reversible de/intercalation kinetics of the EG samples, leading to entirely different staged phase transitions. EG30, treated at 600 degrees C for 30 min, exhibited outstanding performance in LIBs with high specific capacity, rate capability, and Coulombic efficiency, showing potential for application in electric vehicles and portable electronic devices.

Increased residual lithium compounds guided design for green recycling of spent lithium-ion cathodes

Min Fan et al.

Summary: This study conducted comprehensive research on the microstructural evolution of degraded LiNi1-x-yCoxMnyO2 electrodes to propose a targeted method for recycling spent cathode materials based on increased residual lithium compounds. The separation process using only water eliminates the need for toxic organic solvents, complicated processes, and waste treatment, making it an environmentally friendly and efficient recycling strategy. The satisfactory capacity recovery of the cathode through simple sintering provides a sustainable closed-loop for spent cathodes and offers new inspiration for the design of lithium-ion battery recycling.

Recovery of valuable metals from mixed spent lithium-ion batteries by multi-step directional precipitation

Xuan Yang et al.

Summary: A novel strategy of multi-step directional precipitation was proposed for the recovery of valuable metals from the leachate of cathode material obtained from mixed spent lithium-ion batteries. By selectively precipitating different metals under specific conditions, high purity precipitation products were achieved for Mn, Ni, Co, and Li, showing high recovery rates for each metal. This economical and efficient recovery process has potential for large-scale industrial recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries.
