Biomineralization of Collagen-Based Materials for Hard Tissue Repair

Le Yu et al.

Summary: This review discusses the mineralization of collagen fibrils into hydroxyapatite, dividing it into intrafibrillar and extrafibrillar mineralization. Various mechanisms and strategies for inducing biomimetic intrafibrillar mineralization are examined, along with applications for bone regeneration and dentin repair using mineralized collagen fibers. Potential future trends in collagen-based materials for bone and tooth repair are also speculated.

Perspective Applications and Associated Challenges of Using Nanocellulose in Treating Bone-Related Diseases

Suliman Khan et al.

Summary: Bone plays a crucial role in maintaining the shape of the human body, and loss or weakening can impact quality of life. While bone tissue can remodel and regenerate naturally, severe damage requires biophysical methods, chemotherapies, and surgical reconstruction. Nanocellulose-based materials show potential for bone and cartilage regeneration and drug delivery for osteosarcoma treatment.

Biomimetic mineralized hybrid scaffolds with antimicrobial peptides

Zhou Ye et al.

Summary: The study developed a scaffold with dual function for promoting tissue growth and preventing bacterial infections. The scaffolds were fabricated through intrafibrillar-mineralization of collagen and coating with antimicrobial peptides, demonstrating both antimicrobial properties and cytocompatibility to human cells. The process of scaffold fabrication is versatile and can be used with other biopolymers for controlling mineral load.
