Evaluation of window view preference using quantitative and qualitative factors of window view content

Tsung-Yung Lin et al.

Summary: The content of window views plays a crucial role in evaluating the quality of the view. This study aims to assess occupants' window view preferences by considering both quantitative and qualitative factors of view contents. The findings reveal that the percentage of natural elements, the number of layers, and the presence of far elements significantly impact occupants' subjective window view preference.

Evaluation of view clarity through solar shading fabrics

Gilles Flamant et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of exterior solar shading fabrics on the view to the outside and proposes a revised View Clarity Index based on new data. The research finds that the openness factor and color of the fabric significantly influence the outside view, with higher openness factors and darker fabrics providing clearer views. A new formula for predicting view clarity through fabrics is proposed based on the new data. Additionally, the study suggests that the current performance classification scheme needs further refinement and proposes new classes for accurate assessment of outside view through fabrics in future revisions of the standard.

Subjective and physiological responses towards daylit spaces with contemporary facade patterns in virtual reality: Influence of sky type, space function, and latitude

K. Chamilothori et al.

Summary: Recent studies have found that the design of a building's facade and the patterns of light it creates play a significant role in the experience of the occupants. However, little is known about how these findings apply to different lighting conditions, uses of space, or geographical locations. This study used virtual reality to investigate the effects of facade geometry and daylight patterns on people's impressions and physiological responses. The results showed that the geometry of the facade had a strong impact on how people perceived the space, regardless of the lighting conditions or the specific function of the space. The findings highlight the importance of facade design as a tool for creating positive spatial experiences across different contexts and geographical locations.

Effect of color and nano film filters on the performance of solar photovoltaic module

Ahmad Manasrah et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of color filters and thermal insulating Nano films on solar panel output characteristics. Results show that red color filters and Nano films with a 20% blocking rate generate more electrical power and significantly decrease the surface temperature of the photovoltaic module. The research aims to enhance solar cell performance by controlling solar intensity and reducing surface temperature with color and Nano film filters.

Window Size Effects on Subjective Impressions of Daylit Spaces: Indoor Studies at High Latitudes Using Virtual Reality

Claudia Moscoso et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of different window sizes on the perception of small and large spaces in high latitudes through virtual reality. The results showed that larger windows led to more positively evaluated spaces, and there were significant differences in window size preferences among different space types.

Assessing the Visual Comfort, Visual Interest of Sunlight Patterns, and View Quality under Different Window Conditions in an Open-Plan Office

Belal Abboushi et al.

Summary: The study found that the shape of window and sunlight patterns may have limited impact on visual comfort and interest in offices, while desk layout can influence visual interest and view quality ratings. Fractal and striped patterns negatively affected view quality compared to clear conditions.

Audiovisual Bimodal and Interactive Effects for Soundscape Design of the Indoor Environments: A Systematic Review

Yoshimi Hasegawa et al.

Summary: This systematic review focuses on developing a framework for designing sustainable indoor soundscapes, highlighting the importance of visual and audiovisual factors such as greenery, water features, and noise annoyance modulation. The presence of visual information and sound-source visibility can moderate perceived noise annoyance, and sound sources can impact multiple perceptual responses in interactions with certain visual factors.

A Quantitative Method for Evaluation of Visual Privacy in Residential Environments

He Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a quantitative indicator, PVEI, to assess visual privacy in high-density residential areas. Results show that lower floors are subjected to poor visual privacy, while upper floors have relatively better privacy, and residents of middle floors may suffer the worst circumstances.
