Interaction between Dietary Fat Intake and Metabolic Genetic Risk Score on 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Concentrations in a Turkish Adult Population

Kubra Isgin-Atici et al.

Summary: This study examines the interaction between metabolic-genetic risk score and dietary intake on serum vitamin D levels in Turkish adults. The results suggest that individuals with a high metabolic-genetic risk score, especially those with a high fat diet, have lower levels of serum vitamin D. The study highlights the importance of reducing the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in the Turkish population and calls for further research to validate this interaction.

Vitamin D and marine omega 3 fatty acid supplementation and incident autoimmune disease: VITAL randomized controlled trial

Jill Hahn et al.

Summary: Vitamin D supplementation for five years, with or without omega 3 fatty acids, reduced autoimmune disease by 22%, while omega 3 fatty acid supplementation with or without vitamin D reduced the autoimmune disease rate by 15% (not statistically significant). Both treatment arms showed larger effects than the reference arm (vitamin D placebo and omega 3 fatty acid placebo).

Efficacy of Vitamin D Supplements in Treatment of Acute Respiratory Infection: A Meta-analysis for Randomized Controlled Trials

Herim Cho et al.

Summary: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to investigate the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation in the treatment of acute respiratory infections (ARIs). The analysis revealed that vitamin D supplements were not clinically effective in the treatment of ARIs. While the overall analysis showed a beneficial effect of vitamin D supplementation, this effect was not significant in the subgroup analysis of high-quality RCTs. Therefore, the role of vitamin D supplementation in the treatment of ARIs remains controversial.

Vitamins D2 and D3 Have Overlapping But Different Effects on the Human Immune System Revealed Through Analysis of the Blood Transcriptome

Louise R. Durrant et al.

Summary: Vitamin D plays a crucial role in maintaining bone health and calcium balance, and also has broad effects on cellular physiology and the immune system. This study examines the differences in gene expression following supplementation with vitamin D-2 and D-3, and suggests the existence of ethnic variations in the response.

Immunomodulatory Effects of Vitamin D Supplementation in a Deficient Population

Mathieu Garand et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of vitamin D3 supplementation on the blood transcriptome in vitamin D-deficient women. Significant changes were observed in immune-related pathways and gene expression, suggesting a strong effect of vitamin D3 on the immune system. The findings provide insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying vitamin D3 supplementation and its potential implications for individuals in the Middle East and beyond.

Karani S. Vimaleswaran

Summary: The GeNuIne collaboration project investigates the impact of gene-nutrient interactions on cardiometabolic diseases in ethnically diverse populations. Nutrigenetic studies have shown a relationship between deficiencies of vitamins B-12 and D and metabolic diseases, with evidence of genetic heterogeneity across different ethnic groups.
