Breast-conserving therapy is associated with better survival than mastectomy in Early-stage breast cancer: A propensity score analysis

Jiali Ji et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of breast-conserving therapy (BCT) and mastectomy in early-stage breast cancer patients using the SEER database. The results showed that BCT was associated with improved overall survival (OS) and breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) compared to mastectomy. Patients with different subtypes and age groups also showed better survival outcomes with BCT compared to mastectomy.

Research on the cutoff tumor size of omitting radiotherapy for BCSS after breast conserving surgery in women aged 65 years or oder with low-risk invasive breast carcinoma: Results based on the SEER database

Zejian Yang et al.

Summary: This study found that in older women with low-risk invasive breast cancer staged T1N0M0, a tumor size of 14mm was identified as the cutoff point for determining the necessity of radiotherapy after breast-conserving surgery. The research indicates that small tumors and adjuvant radiotherapy are associated with improved long-term prognosis in this patient population.

Updated recommendations regarding the management of older patients with breast cancer: a joint paper from the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA) and the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG)

Laura Biganzoli et al.

Summary: Breast cancer in older adults is becoming more common and challenging to manage due to its heterogeneity and lack of specific evidence. An expert taskforce expanded and updated guidelines with endorsement from the European Cancer Organisation, including factors like chemotherapy toxicity prediction, cultural and social considerations, and genetic screening. Age should not be the sole factor in decision-making, with careful consideration of geriatric assessments, life expectancy, and patient preferences.
