Nonresonant powering of injectable nanoelectrodes enables wireless deep brain stimulation in freely moving mice

K. L. Kozielski et al.

Summary: Research has shown that injectable magnetoelectric nanoelectrodes can wirelessly transmit electrical signals to the brain, modulating neurons and leading to behavioral changes in mice. This technology does not require genetic modification and could be a less invasive method for deep brain neuromodulation.

In Vivo Wireless Brain Stimulation via Non-invasive and Targeted Delivery of Magnetoelectric Nanoparticles

Tyler Nguyen et al.

Summary: Magnetoelectric nanoparticles (MENs) can be guided to targeted brain regions to stimulate brain activity with a magnetic field, reliably evoking fast neuronal responses. The delivery of MENs and magnetic stimulation do not significantly increase astrocytes and microglia, allowing for non-invasive and contactless deep brain stimulation without genetic manipulation.

Magnetothermal nanoparticle technology alleviates parkinsonian-like symptoms in mice

Sarah-Anna Hescham et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that magnetothermal deep brain stimulation (mDBS) can provide therapeutic benefits in mouse models of Parkinson's disease by activating the heat-sensitive capsaicin receptor. The approach allows remote modulation of motor behavior without the need for permanently implanted hardware and connectors. mDBS is shown to be more effective than traditional deep brain stimulation in improving locomotor deficits.
